ABOUT US

Building Food Sovereignty

The Quapaw Farmers Market & Food Hub is one of Quapaw Nation’s many agricultural operationsIn 2010, farm-to-table initiatives reprioritized food sovereignty as a means to fulfill the Nation’s mission for economic self-sufficiency, land and resource protection, and improving the health and welfare of the community, all while maintaining cultural heritage. Quapaw Nation defines food sovereignty as, “the right of Native peoples to retain their cultural identity and to reserve fundamental rights, including the right to produce food, granted in treaties and other legal documents. It is the process of decolonizing the local food system to recreate a sustainable system that maximizes self-reliance through farm-to-table initiatives. Today, these initiatives include the first Tribally-owned meat processing plant, a feeding facility, cattle, bison, greenhouses, beehives, row crops, and a coffee roasting facility amongst others to increase community access to fresh, healthy foods; build tribal economic growth and increase tribal control of the local food system.

QUAPAW FARMERS MARKET

The mission of the Quapaw Farmers Market is to increase community access to affordable and nutritious foods by promoting farm-to-table initiatives, education, and business opportunities for local producers. The 2023 Quapaw Farmers Market season begins May 5 and runs until October 20. Rain or shine, the market will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at our indoor location. Take time to talk with local vendors, sample products, and participate in special events hosted by the Quapaw Farmers Market.

QUAPAW FARMERS MARKET AND FOOD HUB

In 2021, the Quapaw Farmers Market expanded to offer a food hub with grant funds provided by the First Nations Development Institute! The Quapaw Farmers Market and Food Hub sells farm food and value-added products on consignment for local producers. The hub allows us to better meet the needs of community members by providing a greater variety of farm products and extending business hours to accommodate more customers.
The Quapaw Farmers and Food Hub will be open Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
